An unidentified woman informed Georgia State Troopers that she became so startled by an arthropod that leapt onto her lap that she fled her vehicle, witnessing it, along with the presumed eight-legged intruder, sink underwater, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The incident occurred when the woman’s van ended up submerged in a river after she exited the vehicle due to a spider crawling onto her lap.
She recounted to Georgia state troopers that she had been attempting to reverse her Kia van down Neel’s Landing Boat Launch to launch her kayak into the Etowah river.
Authorities dispatched a trooper to the boat launch, located in the western part of Bartow County near Kingston. However, upon the trooper’s arrival, the van had already disappeared into the river and could not be located in the vicinity.
The driver’s insurance company is said to be covering the cost of sending divers to search for the van to ascertain if it can be salvaged.
