Succulents are becoming the ultimate trendsetters in the plant kingdom! So low maintenance, succulents make great houseplants for gardeners of any age to learn how to nurture their green thumbs. Recently, we came across an adorable succulent variety known as Monilaria Moniliformis, also referred to as the “String of Pearls.” These unique plants resemble bunny ears sprouting from their base, making them a popular choice for Easter gifts in recent years. One can also call them “bunny succulents!”
Now, though, there’s a new animal-like succulent out there: dolphin succulents.
While researching hybrid succulent types, we found a tweet from March 2017 by the Twitter user @kao77neko. Behold what the internet has dubbed the dolphin plant.

After researching cross-pollinated succulent types, we ran across this tweet from March 2017 from Twitter user @kao77neko. Behold what the internet has dubbed the dolphin plant.
Needless to say, we are obsessed with this new variety! It’s a cross-pollination between Senecio Rowleyanus, or the String of Pearls bunny succulents, and Senecio Articulatus, which is also called the hot dog cactus. These truly look like tiny little dolphins, don’t they? The striking similarity creates an incredibly cute dolphin-shaped plant. It even grows white and pink flowers!
If you’re eager to start your own succulent garden, think about adding these from Amazon in your shopping cart. You can find them here.
So how do you take care for Senecio Peregrinus? It’s easy, and similar to bunny succulents. They grow well in cooler weather inside, so it’s best to keep them in a cool room with air conditioning during the summer.
Succulent terrariums are the newest trend for indoor plants, but it’s better to let these tiny dolphin-shaped succulents grow without any walls around them. Use open pots for planting these cute plants.
Sow the seeds on well-draining mineral soil in the container. When you’re ready to plant in a planter, use a container with free-draining soil and ventilation. You can combine the plants as long as there’s ample room for each to grow. Like many succulents, these cute plants need lots of sunlight and just a little water to grow well. When these begin to grow, you’ll be so glad your home decor includes tiny dolphins jumping around.
You can find these sweet succulents on Amazon and have them shipped right to your door. Click here to order them!
Check your local gardening shops for the seeds, or if someone you know already has this plant, ask if you can have a cutting to grow yourself. If you have a cutting from your own plants to share in return, that’s a friendly gesture!
