The U.S. Army should be worried about winning wars! When the United States Army is used as a social experiment, warfighting capability is diminished. When sociologists are determining policy in the Army resulting in high level “action plans”, our Army and country are doomed. One of the reasons stated by a U.S. Army captain commanding a unit of about 150 men was that “sensitivity training” had more priority than firing range time. That is the “lemony fresh” Army the Liberal/Progressives are striving for.
If a policy doesn’t make our army stronger against enemies or safer for our soldiers, it shouldn’t be used.
From The Washington Times:
U.S. Army sociologists are concerned that not having enough black officers in combat leadership roles could harm minorities and result in fewer black officers reaching high-ranking positions.
“The issue exists. The leadership is aware of it,” Brig. Gen. Ronald Lewis told USA Today on Thursday. “The leadership does have an action plan in place. And it’s complicated.”
The Army has found that only 10 percent of its active-duty officers are black. This low percentage has led to a shortage of black officers in key military roles like infantry, armor, and artillery.
“It certainly is a problem for several reasons,” Col. Irving Smith, director of sociology at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, told USA Today. “First we are a public institution. And as a public institution we certainly have more of a responsibility to our nation than a private company to reflect it. In order to maintain their trust and confidence, the people of America need to know that the Army is not only effective but representative of them.”
Research by USA Today showed that in 2014, none of the 25 brigades they examined had a black commander. However, by 2015, there were two black commanders in combat brigades.
Capt. Grancis Santana, aged 33, told the newspaper that the shortage of minority officers in important roles wasn’t due to discrimination. Instead, there just weren’t enough qualified soldiers from these minority groups available for these specialized military jobs.
