It’s the end of an era. Beautiful bearded man Jason Momoa is no more. To his credit, he has given us all a chance to say goodbye to the beard and a powerful message for us all to share.
His rugged looks have helped earn him roles in Game of Thrones and the DC Comics franchise, as well as the hearts of millions of fans across the globe. But Jason Momoa, 39, has left some of his loyal fanbase distraught by shaving off his long beard.
The drastic act was for a good cause, with the actor sharing a video of himself shaving in the middle of a plastic-filled desert to promote recycling.
Shared on his YouTube and social media pages the footage sees Jason taking out a razor in the middle of nowhere, before telling his friend that the ‘last time I shaved was in 2012’.
As he shaves Jason says ‘bye’ to his famous characters, including GoT’s Khal Drogo and Aquaman’s Arthur Curry.
He quickly gets to work on his facial hair while telling viewers the reason behind his major makeover, to ‘make a positive change for the health of our planet’.
‘Most importantly, I just wanna do this to bring awareness. Plastics are killing our planet,’ he said before promoting an aluminum can drink range, encouraging fans to swap plastic water bottles for the fully recyclable substitute.
Fans were left inconsolable by the loss of Jason’s beard, with one fan tweeting: ‘OMG Jason Momoa. I am not good with change, certainly not good when a beard gets shaved off.’
Another agreed, writing: ‘Jason just really shocked me to my very core…. HE HAS SHAVED HIS BEARD!!!!! it’s not a drill #distraught.’
Jason Momoa has a chin’ quipped another, while one tweeted ‘I feel empty.’
Other fans were pleasantly surprised with the drastic change though, as one fan wrote: ‘Okay but Jason momoa without a beard wow.’
Jason elaborated on his reasons behind the stunt on his Instagram page, writing: ‘Goodbye DROGO, AQUAMAN, DECLAN, BABA I’m SHAVING this beast off, It’s time to make a change.’
‘A change for the better…for my kids, your kids, the world. Let’s make a positive change for the health of our planet. Let’s clean up our oceans our land. Join me on this journey. Let’s make the switch to infinitely recyclable aluminum. ♻️♻️♻️ Water in cans, not plastic.’
