If you are a Rob Lowe fan you probably enjoyed his movies in the ’80’s like ‘The Outsiders’, ‘Oxford Blues’, ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’, and even ‘About Last Night’. More currently, he appeared in the hit show ‘The West Wing’ and ‘Parks and Recreation’. Lowe currently stars as Dr. Ethan Willis on CBS’s Code Black.
Fan receives huge surprise
Recently a huge fan of his, got the surpise of a liftetime. The actor sent her a video message. What actor these days, takes time out of his busy schedule to send a huge fan a video, let alone a fan that is battling cancer from her hospice bed in Austin, Texas.
Alex Charpentier was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer just over a year ago. Alex is a single mother with 2 children. In her active and healthier days she ran marathons. She’s also been one of Lowe’s biggest fans. In fact, it’s been one of her ‘bucket list’ goals to meet him.
A very good friend of Alex’s, Chris Carter, reached out to set up the wonderful exchange between his dear and dying friend and the actor.
It’s been a thing for more than three decades,” says Chris Carter. “She’s one of my very best friends, so I set out to make it happen. I wrote an email from the heart about her and what she was fighting.”
And Lowe, 53, responded on Tuesday with a heartfelt video in which he encouraged Charpentier to stay strong and keep fighting.
Lowe sends sweet video message
In a video message for Charpentier, Rob smiles as he says,
“Yup! It’s me. It’s Rob,” he said laughing. “How’re you, Alex? Word has gotten back to me that you’ve been a longtime supporter of mine, and I can’t tell you what that means to me. That people like what I do and pay attention to what I do is just tremendous, and particularly people who are as enthusiastic as you have been…Thank you!”
“I also want to say God bless. I’m sending prayers for you and thinking about you. I know you’re in a really tough fight, and you know what, you’re a fighter! I want to pat you on the back for that and hopefully give you some inspiration.”
After encouraging her to continue her battle as he has “more stuff” that she needs to be around to see, he concluded with his love. “I’m thinking about you!”
Here’s the video:
As you can imagine for anyone in Alex’s situation, she was overwhelmed by Rob Lowe’s response and wonderful, heartwarming video.
“Well, Rob, I can’t tell you what it means to me, the impact that you’ve made on my life, albeit short. I went from drooling over you as an adolescent teen to respecting you as an actor and as a parent and as a human being. Fighting against your own illness, fighting for your own marriage.”
Fan gets emotional
Wow! Talk about emotional!
“To know you took the time to call me… when my friends showed the video to my kids, they cried because they know how much this means to me. You are authentic, and I’m authentic.”
After growing emotional, she concluded,
“I’m laying in my bed, and I have difficulty speaking and breathing, but I want you to know from my heart how much this means to me, and how this will stay in my family. Thank you so much, Rob. Peace.”
Carter said Charpentier gained strength following Lowe’s message.
“I think the miracle we wanted was for her to have a miraculous recovery. That’s not going to happen, but we got this. She was so happy last night. He helped create that for her.”
