A wedding is forever and it holds a special place in the memories of the bride and groom. But this wedding will also be one to remember always for an adorable four year-old little boy who got a new mom when she married his dad. US Marine Corps Sergeant Joshua Newville’s son, Gage, could not hold back the tears as his new mom, Senior Airman Emily Leehan, read vows not only to her betrothed, but to his little boy. She held him and hugged him as he wept in her arms.
As Emily said ‘I do’, there were tears of joy all around. It was a very emotional wedding this last Saturday at Quincy Cellars in Ripley, New York. Little Gage was so overwhelmed with love and happiness, he could not contain it. Especially when Emily read the vows meant just for him. He will never forget this day as his family became whole and love overflowed in front of a beaming pastor.
Emily told little Gage: “I want you to be safe and to try your hardest and to be a good person.” That was all Emily got out before the little one broke into tears and hugged her with all his might, wrapping his tiny little arms around the new bride. She said, “Don’t cry baby.” All of their guests went ‘awww’ and laughed very softly at the tender scene.
Gage’s dad tried to calm the little boy down. “Buddy. It’s okay,” he said as Gage cried in his arms as well. “I hope you learn that you are a very special boy,” Emily told Gage. She continued, “You are so extremely smart, handsome and kind to others. You have helped make me into the woman that I am today. And I may not have given you the gift of life, but life surely gave me the gift of you.” Now, I’m going to cry too. Then she kissed little Gage, who gave her a big hug.
Everyone wept as the vows were finished. But in the end, they became a family… a mom, dad and a lovable little boy with a wonderful future ahead of all of them.
The newlyweds are both still on active military duty, so they are postponing their honeymoon at this time. The couple will return to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Trenton, New Jersey, in a few days.
If there was ever a fairy tale come true, it’s this story. One day, Gage’s parents will be out of the service and they will go on to other adventures. They have taught their son some of the most valuable lessons in life… love, selflessness, duty, honor and courage. Every child deserves to have both a father and a mother that love them. This weekend, Gage’s wish came true and he is loved with all their hearts. It wasn’t just a marriage between a man and a woman… it was a promise of love and devotion to little Gage. Now, that’s a happy ending. Getting more Kleenex now.
