In 2013 a Thai video ad by mobile company TRUEMOVE H became an internet hit with a video that as of this writing, now has 20.3 million views on YouTube. It is still a great reminder that small acts of kindness can change the course of a life.
This 3-minute video clip starts with a woman chasing a small boy who has stolen from a pharmacy.
A cafe owner, who doesn’t appear as if he is wealthy asks the boy if his mom is sick. With a nod of the boy’s head, the cafe owner pays for the stolen medicine and gives the boy vegetable soup from his cafe.
Fast forward 30 years and the same cafe owner is shown handing over a bag of food to a homeless man but suddenly collapses.
While in the hospital, the cafe owner’s daughter receives a medical bill for $24,000.
With no money to pay such a large bill, the daughter puts a for sale sign on their house. As she wakes from sleep next to her father, she finds a folded note. In the note, she finds a new hospital bill that now reads a balance of zero.
The note reads, “all expenses have been paid 30 years ago, with three packs of painkillers and a bag of veggie soup.”
“Giving is the best communication,” reads the tagline at the end.
YouTube viewer Tristan Blair described the Thai video ad as: “Absolutely beautiful, arguably one of the best commercials I have ever seen.”
And Michael Trg commented: “Watched this video 3 times, still lose it at the veggie soup payment part.”
