Justin Bieber may be having a religious reawakening. It has some liberals flabbergasted and Christians thrilled. He just cancelled his world tour to rededicate his life to Christ. Canadian Bieber is 23 now and this isn’t the first time he’s talked about being a Christian.
These questions come as Bieber was just involved in another incident in Beverly Hills. He was coming out of church in his vehicle and hit a photographer. The victim has non-life-threatening injuries, but he is in the hospital. So, of course, the media is trying to work an angle on this with Bieber’s faith. Lame.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bieber will cancel the remainder of the Purpose World Tour concerts,” a publicist announced on July 24th. Justin has not issued a statement explaining the cancellation. His concerts last year brought in over $163 million. He attends Hillsong Church. I’ve heard of them before and I believe a number of celebrities go there. It’s a contemporary megachurch that has its beginnings in Sydney, Australia. Now, they have churches all over the world. Its music ministry, Hillsong Worship, along with its worship band, Hillsong United, has released numerous popular Christian songs.
What I wonder is if Bieber is such a devout Christian, why does he keep getting into trouble? Perhaps he’s now finally trying to turn his life around. “We know [Bieber] was in the country a few weeks ago having meetings and attending the big Hillsong convention that they had here,” Richard Wilkins, a veteran entertainment reporter told a morning show in Australia. “Whether he’s looking at teaming up with them or [securing] something of a more permanent situation, or doing some sort of religious activity on his own — starting his own church — we’re not quite sure.” That’s interesting and a bit weird.
Evidently, Bieber fans who had tickets for the rest of his tour will be reimbursed. I’m not a fan, but those that are seem to really love the guy. Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun apologized profusely to Bieber’s fans… he said they were very sorry. Then he said this: “That was never our intent. But a man’s soul and well-being I truly care about came first, and we must all respect and honor that.” Which lends credence to the spiritual reawakening of Bieber and his religious reprieve. He then said something about one chapter ending and another beginning.
I’m a big fan of Christian music. It will be interesting if that is the life-changing route that Bieber embarks on. Many singers have. Amy Grant for instance was huge both in and out of Christian music. I have a feeling Bieber would do well in it. Bieber pretty much solidified the rumors when he posted this on Instagram: “The devil has no power when you know the LIVING God! His name is JESUS!! Why worry when you can worship.” It sounds like Bieber has become one of the faithful. I wish him all the best in his new adventure.
