Can’t say for sure if Caitlyn Jenner and Steven Tyler are working on a song together. However, I bet you can guess what song it would be. Hint – it was a popular song for the movie ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ which Robin Williams starred in.
Jenner was recently on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and told Kimmel the story behind meeting Tyler and the song.
Jenner said when she met Tyler backstage, she told him,
“I have had some really, really tough times in my life. Every once in awhile I’d get dressed, go sneak out in the dark and drive around – and I always used to take your song, ‘Dude (Looks Like a Lady).’ And that became my theme song, driving around in my little car with my little CD in there, whipping up the tunes and stuff. I just wanted you to know it made me feel good. He loved it. He hugged me and said we got to get together. He was great.”
Jenner also praised the song Tuesday on Instagram, captioning a photo of herself and Tyler, @iamstevent and I are “Working on our duet for ‘Dude Looks Like a Lady.’ One of my favorite songs!”
Of course, there’s no official word of Jenner and Tyler doing the duet over…yet. However, the response to the news on social media was not positive.
Here’s one comment on Instagram:
“Your portrayal of being there for the trans community is confusing due to your misogyny. This caption and song are poor choices to use as a symbol for the trans community. You are another white puppet flaunting their privilege in the guise of being a representative for the you generation and trans life.”
Then there was Zack Ford’s response:
Ok, @Caitlyn_Jenner. STOP. You’ve been terrible enough, but now you’re trying too hard to be terrible.
Another said, “You ignorant twat, its people like you that make me fear transition. and you’re f–king trans yourself, do the community a favor and stop acting like you rep us. you are ruining us. GO AWAY!!!!”
Still another posted,
“I’ve been laughed out of cafes and bars with this song @caitlynjenner. This song is used as a form of transphobic abuse. So many have had it done to them like it was to me. Transwomen are not ‘dudes’. We are women.”
If that’s any indication on how well the duet would be received, well, I don’t know if I’d spend the time or money on the venture.
Jenner also recently revealed she was considering running for Senate in California.
As Jenner stated,
“I have considered it. I like the political side of it. The political side of it has always been very frightening to me.”
“Over the next six months or so, I gotta find out where I can do a better job. Can I do a better job from the outside? Kind of working the perimeter of the political scene, being open to talking to anybody? Or are you better from the inside? And we are in the process of determining that. Yeah, but I would look for a senatorial run.”
Well, whether it’s a run for Senate or a song with Steven Tyler, either way the ‘Dude Looks Like a Lady’.
